Sex and the City, “Sexy or scary?”
Alright, so there’s this huge craze about the Sex and the City movie that’s coming out in a week or so. That’s great and all, but to me it’s like c’mon are you kidding? Did Entertainment Weekly need to dedicate a whole magazine to this supposedly iconic show? Has this show grown from slick and sexy to down right scary? You be the judge…
I used to watch the show, not fanatically, but I did watch it (all 6 seasons). I thought the first few seasons were a lot better than the last. They established the characters quickly and we all soon learned the difference between a Samantha move and something Charlotte might do. Great, right?
Well why did they have to trash that? They’ve made the characters into caricatures of the real people they could have been. The only one who really stayed the most true to the original character was Carrie, but even Carrie has had her really bad moments on the show where she’s wearing something that’s a cross between Elton John and Rocky Horror Picture Show. I mean c’mon, the opening tutu was cute, but get over it. Everyone else seemed to fall even further into the stereotypical or in Samantha’s case, comic strippy universe of over doing it.
Samantha: Sex crazed, bitchy person who talks like Thurston Howell III and is way to “mature” to still be doing sex scenes.
Charlotte: Way to innocent (for someone who lives in NY) old money socialite with the Waterford crystal heart of gold, who tilts her head and makes the confused frowny face a lot.
Miranda: Boring-Shmoring complainer, who constantly whines and feels sorry for herself because her friends are cuter than her and get more booty. Her character is so dull even she forgets her own name. She’s the clichéd boring housewife, who was never a housewife! Now that’s just plain sad.
Carrie: Fun loving, awesome dresser/horrendous dresser, cool girl, pretty even with the crazy nose, who writes a column for a NY newspaper, yet very few people know who the hell she is. She really, really likes to sleep with lots of cute guys and then decide they are not as good as Mr. Big. Well, Big’s a millionaire, duh!!!
For anyone who worships this show, please don’t feel the need to rip me a new one. It’s just a blog and Sex in the City is just a show, not a way of life. This is just a fun way to share our feelings on this silly show, which apparently is life changing for some. So fire away!! Let me hear you!
P.S. The part in the movie where SJP is wearing the wedding dress with the big green plume in her hair??? I’m sorry, but she looks quite terrifying.
